Bridgette Bradley

Bridgette - after a Pilates session in the Maldives Bridgette Bradley has been developing her private consultancy practice, Derbyshire Pilates, since 1999. She has a Masters degree in Occupational Psychology and is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society, with a special interest in the Sports and Exercise division.

Her expertise in ergonomics centres around the relationship between people and the physical and psychological demands of their working environment.

Over the years Bridgette has developed an holistic approach to her work, combining her knowledge in physiological psychology with the Pilates method to design rehabilitation programmes.

The Pilates programmes on the site have been designed by her to help guide and facilitate your Pilates practice. Every effort has been made to keep the integrity of Joseph Pilates’ work, to help you take care of your body and to nurture your mind, as Joseph would have wished.

Bridgette practices Pilates with a passion. After a riding accident in her early 20’s, she spent many hours with a physiotherapist learning to move again. Since then as the years have gone by Pilates has become a way of life, helping to manage and relieve the pain from old injuries.

Bridgette deals with issues such as:

  • Sacroiliac joint problems, including pelvic girdle pain and pubic symphasis dysfunction (PGP & PSD)
  • Degenerative disc disease / Post operative exercise guidance and rehabilitation exercises
  • Non-specific lower back pain and strategies for chronic pain management
  • Women’s and men’s health issues such as pelvic floor weakness and exercising for the Menopause
  • Knee injury and post operative rehabilitation
  • Therapeutic exercises for neck and shoulder pain, including whiplash
  • Poor sports performance, including hamstring injuries
  • Hip replacement rehabilitation and recovery
  • Arthritis care
  • Maintaining physical health and wellbeing during cancer treatment and recovery
  • Poor breathing patterns associated with asthma, stress and anxiety

Bridgette is a Master in Corrective Exercise, specialising improving sports performance, injury prevention and spinal rehabilitation. She has national accreditation at level 4 specilising in rehabilitation methods for low back pain with the Register of Exercise Professionals, Reg No: R0044133. She provides progressive exercise programming for clients with Low Back Pain and spinal discomfort. She is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society achieving 2:1 with honours, and has a Masters degree in Occupational Psychology. She is an advanced Modern Pilates Instructor and her qualifications are nationally recognised. She is a qualified Comprehensive Pilates Foundation Apparatus teacher and uses the clinical reformer in her work. She has a Post Graduate Certificate in pre and post-natal pregnancy training. Bridgette is also Certified as an Emergency First Aid Responder.

Bridgette has worked and trained alongside physiotherapists for many years, training with Chris Norris Msc, MCSP in the treatment of back pain and lumbar stabilization techniques. Now she offers Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Sports Massage therapists, Spinal consultants and GP’s, on-going progressive exercise programmes for their patients, through her unique referral system. Bridgette delivers workshops on exercises and release techniques for Low Back Pain, Neck, Shoulder and upper back discomfort and Breathing and Respiratory difficulties.

Is Pilates easy exercise?

Well – yes and no. Pilates is about careful, slow, gentle movement and not the massive, rapid, demanding actions found in some sports or other exercise disciplines. But whilst it is a gentle form of exercise, the precision and control of body movement required is quite high. This takes careful practise and the development of good muscular strength, control and co-ordination to be able to master the movements.
