Beginners Pilates – Video 4
A slight change of pace to start off in this video as we are introduced to the benefits and importance of relaxation of the body (and mind) to get the best out of our exercise routine and achieve greatest benefits. A great session for unwinding at the end of any busy day. Definitely one to play through again and again in the future.

In this session we return to Mike’s progress and learn about the use of the resistance band used on this occasion with the side lying clam. We also address tension and start to stabilse the scapula with scapula depressions. Sounds technical – but the video makes it so easy to follow . . .

On the side with two legs elevated – that’s starting to get a little challenging. So to is ab prep 2, but that’s why we have the detailed one on one instruction and the videos to follow. Getting these moves absolutely right without the guidance of Bridgette would be an even bigger challenge. This is getting meaty!

This phase of the course is all about developing what has gone before with subtle progression and concentration on good form. After becoming confident with this latest session, graft it onto the end of one of the sessions you have practiced previously or repeat the routine over again in one session.

This short routine concentrates upon side bends and rotation. Such movement is not frequently encountered by us in our daily lives and so short, regular, careful exercises such as these will gradually build our mobility and strength to enable us to function far better when we do need to move in such ways. Once confident, repeat the routine over again in one session.

We’re practicing hip work and a little more side bend work in this session. It’s important to keep our hips mobile and to try (without over-exerting) to improve strength and agility here. Concentration is key in this subtle series of exercises that will supplement what you have already learned. Remember to finish with a gentle, steady gluteal stretch. Holding that warm muscle stretch for a minute each side. Once confident, repeat the routine over again in one session.
